"Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:"
Dress for action like a man; I will question you,
and you make it known to me."
(Job 38:2-3)
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding."
(Job 38:4)
"Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"
or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"
(Job 38:5-7)
"Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out
from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick
darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set
bars and doors, and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?"
(Job 38:8-11)
"Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold
of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand
It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand
out like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld,
and their uplifted arm is broken."
and their uplifted arm is broken."
(Job 38:12-15)
"Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked
in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been revealed
to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? Have you
comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this."
(Job 38:16-18)
"Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the
place of darkness, that you may take it to its territory
and that you may discern the paths to its home? You know, for
and that you may discern the paths to its home? You know, for
you were born then, and the number of your days is great!"
(Job 38:19-21)
"Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the
storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble,
for the day of battle and war? What is the way to the place where the
for the day of battle and war? What is the way to the place where the
light is distributed, or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth?"
(Job 38:22-24)
"Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain and a way for
the thunderbolt, to bring rain on a land where no man is,
on the desert in which there is no man, to satisfy the waste
on the desert in which there is no man, to satisfy the waste
and desolate land, and to make the ground sprout with grass?"
(Job 38:25-27)
Have you heard enough? God continues to address Job, as He did in the mighty scriptures above. It was clear to Job, and it's clear to us as we read it, that we are minute in the scope of things, that we ARE but the dust of the earth, that our arms are too short to box with God, that, indeed, "Where were we ....?"
Hey, who are humans to shake their fists at the One who exhales, and the mighty winds stir up the ocean's waves? Who are we to think we can stand up to the all knowing, omnipresent, Creator of the universe? We will bow now, or we will bow later, but we all will bow before the Holy God of Israel. People forget these things because we live in "Grace;" He is longsuffering, patient, now, and it appears people are getting away with sin; it appears the sin paraded before His Holy face is ignored ... it is not! He is not ignoring SIN; He is giving people a chance in this Grace time to come to Him, to repent, to be baptized in His name and be filled with the Holy Ghost. But, soon the door will shut, and the day of reckoning will be here.
Thank you, Job! I'm sorry you went through all you did, but thank you, because you gave us a Book like no other, a Book that paints a picture of God, by His own mouth, with His own words, in a way all can understand, and we are humbled when we read it. We are suddenly on our faces, tears streaming down, worshipping the Holy One of Israel with our whole hearts. Thank you, Job. And, to people in every Nation, kindred and tongue, people in America and all over the world; Almighty God still asks with a beckoning hand reaching out to His beloved, "Where Were You?"
