From the Book of Job:
"Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? ... Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? Declare if thou knowest it all. Where is the way where light dwelleth? And as for darkness, where is the place thereof? ... Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? Or hast thou seen the treasure of the hail, which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder?" (Job 38:16-25)
These are very good questions; don't you think? That's just it! Gratefulness comes from a ponderous mind, and there's no doubt about it; it's an absolute fact: "Thankful Requires Thinking!"
"Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the
peacocks, or wings and feathers unto the
ostrich?"
(Job 39:13)
The Lord God of the universe is asking Job these questions. We did not evolve; we were created! God created the heavens and the earth and all that is therein. God's questions to Job were to make him think. Think about what? All that he sees; all that there is, and all that encompasses the intricacies of Space, the uniqueness of the animal kingdom, the wonder of the galaxies, not to dismiss the diversity of human beings. It's hard to consider the human body and all its parts, DNA, and its operation, without thinking of Almighty God! All we have to do is look around and look up, and we are astounded at His majesty, His glory, His beauty provided for us in planet earth. It automatically brings "Thank You" to our lips, "Thank You, Lord!"
"Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and
stretch her wings toward the south?"
(Job 39:26)
Everything and everyone in heaven and earth take orders from the Master of the universe, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. Think about it ...
"Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and
make her nest on high?"
(Job 39:27)
You get the picture. We are not just down here doing "our own thing" in earth; there are eternal omnipotent unseen hands of our Holy Almighty God that are ever and always setting up, tearing down, leading, guiding, moving, orchestrating, balancing, maneuvering, and ordering all that is in the world and the heavens ... except for humans ...
Humans have a will, and God will not override a person's own will. Oh yeah, He could make every person in earth bow at the blink of His eye, but He does not, because He IS a gentleman; He does not force us to love and serve Him; He does not thrust salvation upon us; He showed us the way with a blood-stained body nailed to a splintered rugged cross. He died that we might live; then He rose and lives that we might die. What? We must die to our sins, die to evil, die to our selfishness and greed, die to the cares and lusts of this world, and die to all the things that are daily "killing" humanity. What God would scrape Himself out of the glory of eternity to come and die a bloody gruesome death for a people who mostly believe that they evolved from apes? It is a God who gives credit to the honest hearts of us who, when we look around us and look up, will "think" of GOD, His mercy, grace and love, that He IS our Creator, and we are so very "thankful."
"Hast thou an arm like God? Or
canst thou thunder with a voice like
Him? Deck thyself now with majesty
and excellency; and array thyself with
glory and beauty."
(Job 40:9-10)
What does God think of us? He sees us as majestic, excellent, clothed in glory and beauty, and where does all this come from? GOD! It is not within us to be or do anything; our worth, value, beauty, and impetus to even have a "mind" operating with sanity is from our Creator. Oh, the vastness of His mercy! In one moment, a heart attack could wipe us out, a stroke could take away all of our cognitive reasoning, a seizure could leave us in a vegetative state ... Thank You, Lord Jesus, for health, strength, a mind to serve you, and a heart to love you!
Almighty God's many questions to Job were after Job made the statement that he wished he had not been born. We really shouldn't condemn poor old Job; after all, he had lost all of his children, his wealth, his cattle, his servants, and his health in one swift moment; and he was sitting in despair, covered with oozing boils from head to foot with three of his "supposed" friends telling him it was his own sins that landed him there. So, God stepped in with a multitude of questions to bring Job's dilemma back to perspective. Job ended with repentance ... that's the "end" of all of us. "The end?" you say. Yes, we have to come to the end of ourselves, so we can rise to a beginning with our God!
NASA "thinks" about God, because the Hubble telescope captured what they call "The Eye of God." Every now and then, the Lord Jesus Christ gives us a reason to "think" about Him, where He is, where we are, and where we're going ... up or down ... and it brings us to the Godly, humbling, eternity mindset that we, in earth, must all acquire: "Thankful Requires Thinking!"
