"Sing the Sermon; Preach the Song!"

"Must learn to sing our sermons and preach our songs."
(Pastor Kenneth Phillips)

"And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold,
I have delivered the land into his hand."
(Judges 1:2)

Profound, isn't it?  What?  Singing a sermon!  Why not?  Judah goes up first  ... that's praise, so praise Him in the sermon, praise Him in the dance, praise Him in the worship, praise Him in the song, praise Him with your voice, praise Him with your uplifted waving arms, praise Him  ...  Praise Him   ...   PRAISE Him!  The creative deepened avenue of the seasoned prophetic preacher would do it.  He would do what?  He would do 'A new thing' for the last lap, like: "Sing the Sermon; Preach the Song!

When you're singin' the sermon, be prepared for dancin'  ... It will be a toe-tappin', soul swayin', spirit dancin', body movin', aisle shakin', ivory-ticklin' kind of thing!  Huh?  You know how it is  ...  we just can't help it when that holy music gets to us  ... the tempo calls to the feet and the notes jangle the soul  ... it's called Worship and Praise to our mighty God, Jesus Christ!  And, be careful not to murmur at it, because when David danced before the Lord, his wife ridiculed him and ended up barren.  God receives each individual's worship with open arms.  Some bow; some sit with hands turned upward; some stand with honor and gratitude; some cry tears of joy; some laugh and shout; some smile with quiet thankfulness; and some Dance with uninhibited abandonment!   The moral of the story:  Dance, children, Dance!

Hey, there are a lot of songs that PREACH!  Can I get a witness?  Like, it's time to flood heaven with praise and worship, so "Everybody Get Up!;" we're "Goin' to the Enemy's Camp To Take Back What He Took From Me;" because "Amazing Grace" is my middle name now, so "Make Way for the King;" we're headed for "The New Jerusalem," so just say "Hallelujah Anyhow" when troubles come your way, because you know you're "Crucified With Christ," and "Our God Is An Awesome God;" and "There's A Reason" we're enduring to the end; it's because of His "Amazing Love," and "Ain't No Grave Gonna' Hold My Body Down;" should be your motto, because you can testify each day "He's Grown More Dear," and don't worry about the night, because "There's A Little Bit O' Mornin' Outside."

We have come to the powerful and amazing time of the new Tabernacle of David  ...  Worship, Worship, Worship!  Preach that Song, Sing that Sermon, dance the Word, and enter in.  Huh?  It's a new day, a new thing, a new chord, a new order, a new climate, a new depth, a new sound, a new aroma rising from earth  ...

It's the Wedding Song of the Bride, the lilt of words flowing to the One whom she loves, because the day is drawing near, and when we're in love, things get a little turned around, because love makes us "Sing the Sermon; Preach the Song!"

"Holy Fire"

"... he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:"

Come, Holy Ghost, and purify my body, soul, mind and spirit, with
fire from above, descending like a dove
Oh, Let me be honest and sincere, not double minded, but with
singleness of eye, filled with God's love
Give me a mind of wisdom and a heart that's pure; may I be wholly
in Your Will, Oh Lord; "Thy Will be done"
Grant me righteousness in the portals of my soul, and teach me
Your holiness that is second to none
Let the meditations of my heart be acceptable to You, and when I
pray, let my words be true and sure
Lead me in Your paths, and help me to be strong, upholding Your
Word, wearing Your armor, to endure
Humbly I bow, and let my spirit and my soul surrender in kind, as
I walk in Your statutes, and obey Your commands
Let not my heart be distant, nor my mind be wavering, but let me
be close to You, and secure in Your hand
In this flesh dwells no good thing, so help me Lord, to feed Your
Spirit abiding in my soul, to never go astray
Keep me in Your grasp, holy in Your sight, and show me when I'm
wrong; don't let me be cool and slide away
I desire to know the truth, even about myself, so come to me and
warn me, if I should deceive my own heart
Let the fire of the Holy Ghost erupt within me, and overflow to
cleanse me to hold fast, never to depart
Life in earth is preparation for the eternal beyond; let my feet not
stumble and head down a wrong trail
For to taste Your love and then fool myself into Hell would be fate
for fools, and not for those who prevail
Guard me with Your Angels, and steer me with Your eye; I am Your
own, and I must make it to Your throne
I'm so thankful for Your blood, O Lord, and I never want to step
out of its cover, or its power to atone
You're my Lord and my King, my Savior and Redeemer, my Love
and my Lover; hold me close, O Lord
You're my Everlasting Father, my Prince of Peace, my Lamb, and
my Lion of Judah; I've heard when You roared
And, I've heard Your whispers in the cool morning moonlight, so
I pledge my soul's devotion, never to tire
You've brought me too far to leave me, so possess me, My Lord;
consume me, and fill me with Your "Holy Fire."

"King Size Bed"

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall
be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
(Isaiah 9:6)

It all happened one night; it seemed just like any other, but the
heavens declared it wasn't; this night was splendor
The shepherds realized it, with such angelic presence; it was to be
the emergence of all lost souls' defender
He was God, come in the flesh, born of a virgin on one starry
night, and the world would wake to a Savior
Almighty God was determined to save His world, and it took a
miraculous plan to redeem earth's behavior
The eternal God became a babe in a lowly manger, and He grew to
a man, whose only thought was to save mankind
He would loose the bound, free the sinful, raise the dead, heal the
sick, and like a bird in flight, none would be confined
We must never underestimate the depth of a starlit night, for in a
moment in time, the whole world can change
One God, Jesus Christ, came forth to reign and rule forever;
it was ordained in heaven, a holy plot arranged
And, it happened in the shepherd's watch, while a host of angels
descended; it was not just any old night
It was the beginning of hope for a people lost in Sin, and the
universe responded at such an incredible sight
The Creator became creation to fulfill the prophecies, and turn
earth back to its Eden, and people back to innocence
By the hand of God, a lone shining night became Holy with One
Birth, a miracle and a destined ordinance
He was born to die to rise again, and gather His own unto Himself;
this was the plan to give life to the dead
It was foretold for centuries, prophetic utterances from those who
saw ahead, and with the Word, it was led
And now, we wait for another One night when the thief will come
to gather His own in a Rapture in the skies
We, who are alive and remain, will be caught up together with our
Lord, and on that one night, we'll arise
Don't gaze into the moonlit heaven with no thought of what can
happen, for in One night your life can unfold
Just as the Holy One of Israel arrived One night, and the Word
was complete in a babe in a manger, as foretold
When you're staring at that star so bright above the earth, don't
take it for granted, and just let it be said
Hope reigns eternal for your life to turn around; just ask the
shepherds about that night, and the "King Size Bed."

"Destined Babies"

"And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash
herself at the river; and her maidens walked along
by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among
the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it."
(Exodus 2:5)

Pharaoh's plan was to destroy Israel, but Pharaoh's own daughter took pity on this lone Hebrew baby, and unknown to her, she preserved Israel's deliverer!  Mama's: Who and what will your babies grow up to become?  We can scan through the pages of history and the light of the page always falls on that mother, that grandmother, or great grandmother  ...  Moses' mother put him in the river to save his life, but she followed close and then made herself available to nurse her own baby, when the daughter of Pharaoh went looking for a nursemaid.  It was a brilliant and prophetic plan for the life of Moses.  He never forgot the Hebrew morals and Hebrew "character," even though he grew up in a palace of plenty.  His roots stayed with him all the days of his life, and groomed him for his eventual destiny.  His Mama, in the short time she had to nurse him before giving him back to Pharaoh's daughter, made sure Moses knew who he was  ...

Moses, The Deliverer

From a baby set afloat alone in a river to a Prophetic Deliverer of the people of Israel, so was Moses.  He was a baby destined for greatness, a child born with purpose in his soul, an infant chosen for one of the greatest of God's plans.  The bulrushes couldn't hold him; the palace couldn't change him; Pharoah couldn't stop him; 40 years in the desert didn't deter him  ...  Mama, you saved one little life, who saved thousands of lives, and an entire Nation  ...

Hannah bringing Samuel to the Temple

Hannah was barren and her soul ached for a child; one year when she and her husband, Elkanah, went to Shiloh to worship God and offer sacrifices, Hannah prayed the prayer of her life:

"And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the
Lord and wept in anguish.  Then she made a vow and
said, 'O Lord of Hosts, if You will indeed look on the
affliction of Your maidservant and remember me,
and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your
maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the
Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come
upon his head."  (I Samuel 1:10-11)

Hannah wanted a baby; God wanted a Prophet!  Eli, the Priest, observed Hannah's distraught behavior, thought she was drunk, and rebuked her.  But, she explained she wasn't drunk but was pouring out her heart to the Lord; so Eli said, "Go in peace and God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of him."  It's awesome enough to pray in sincerity and unflinching belief, but it's also awesome to have a Prophetic man of God who can speak the Word of God into existence in our lives.

Hannah left the temple no longer in the state in which she came, sad, because the Bible says she didn't doubt, she believed!  If we're gonna' pray, we better best well "believe" what we have prayed, otherwise, why do it?  God granted her request, and she had a son, whom she named Samuel.  Hannah honored her vow to the Lord and when Samuel was weaned, she took him to the temple and entrusted him into the hands of Eli, the priest.  In desperate times, we sometimes makes desperate vows in prayer, God remembers those vows  ...  And, know this  ...  He expects reciprocation  ...

The Prophet Samuel

Samuel, the Prophet, was one of honor and intercessory prayer.  He stood firm for the Word of God, as evidenced of his execution of Agag.  From his lips came the words, oft quoted by the people of God, "Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of lambs."  (I Samuel 15:22)  Oh, Mama Hannah, your Samuel was one of the few almost blameless characters of the Bible.

During this time, in which Samuel lived, the Bible states, "And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision."  C. Knapp states it like this: "No open vision" means there was no public revelation of God's will concerning His people; no open manifestation of His mind, either by dreams or prophet, or by Urim and Thummim."  A spiritual famine prevailed, not of bread, but of the Word of God.  Matthew Henry states, "Perhaps the impiety and impurity that prevailed in the Tabernacle, and no doubt corrupted the whole nation, so provoked God that as a token of His displeasure, He withdrew the Spirit of prophecy, till the decree had gone forth for the raising up of a more faithful priest; and then, as an earnest of that, this faithful prophet was raised up."

When God is silent, it's time to fall on the knees.  You say, "But, I pray and I don't hear Him."  I would ask, "Have you received the Holy Ghost, with evidence of speaking in tongues?  It is not an audible voice that we hear, although it can be; it is God's Spirit within us, speaking to our spirits  ...  It's an unction, a divine inclination, a spiritual perception  ...  The Lord said that His sheep hear Him and know His voice.

The Prophet Samuel heard the Lord calling him, and to him it was an audible voice, because he went three times, at his young age, to Eli the priest, because he thought it was Eli calling for him.  The priest finally discerned that it was God calling the lad, and Eli told Samuel that the next time he heard the voice, he should say, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening."  A wonderful prayer for us today: "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening."

Shepherds told of coming Messiah

The Birth of Jesus Christ

Finally, we have a baby born who never calls his mother, "Mommy, Mom, Mama, or Mother."  Scripture states, when Jesus was grown, that he referred to her as "Woman."  You say, "That sounds a little cruel."  No, He was "her" Savior, as well!  She gave birth to God, and His role was always understood in her life; she provided her womb, and He came forth to be who He was, God manifested in the flesh.  Mama, He was your baby to you, but also your Redeemer, your Lord and King, your God!  And, He grew to perform His destiny  ...

Jesus, at 12, preaching in the Temple

Jesus, healing the blind

Jesus, washing the disciples' feet

Jesus, Crucified

The Lord Jesus Christ did what He came to do; He became the blood sacrifice for all the world, the redemption for mankind, the lamb slain from the foundation of the world  ...  our Savior and God, the baby who lit up the sky with His arrival, who sent kings to their knees in worship, who was Word and became flesh, who healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers, and spoke not a word in His own trial, because He willingly gave His life  ...  that we might have eternal life  ...  with Him.
