"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen."
(Hebrews 11:1)
You say, "What in the world are you talking about; we know about the Lord Jesus ... are you saying He is unknown?" Yep, to those who have not received His Spirit, the Holy Ghost. Those who have received the Holy Ghost know Him in Spirit and in truth; but, there is much more to God than we can fathom. Therefore, "faith" requires seeking to know the unknown. The mighty and powerful gifts of the Spirit of God, wisdom and knowledge, lead us stronger into the essence of The Almighty God. The gift of wisdom is something only God knows and He, then, reveals it to someone; the gift of knowledge is when we know we have a lump in our body, and God reveals it to someone else, who prays over us for healing of that lump, but we never told that person about the lump. The unknown is made known by the One who knows! God knows your tears, your fears, your innermost hurts and His gifts are given to people filled with His Spirit to help others, to bring deliverance, to lift up, comfort and heal those in need. Faith, then, is believing in the unknown. What? The Bible says that we must believe that He IS!
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that
cometh to God must believe that he is, and that
he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
(Hebrews 11:6)
Knowing the unknown about God is the Christian's quest. The deep calleth unto deep; the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much ... we seek, seek, seek, to know Him, to feel Him, to understand Him, to hear Him, to believe in Him, to have the mind of Christ, to see through His eyes, and to pursue the unknown about Him. It keeps some of us awake; it draws some to the pastures; it pulls lonely love songs from the hearts of some; it makes poets out of some; it lays some on their faces in visions and wonders; it causes some to become martyrs for the cause of Christ; it draws some to radical worship; and it captures the very souls of some in the throes of desperate love with the lover of their souls. It's an ethereal tryst of holy proportions for some ...
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on
what is unseen. For what is seen
is temporary,
but what is unseen is eternal."
(2 Corinthians 4:18)
We can never even get a glimpse of the unknown without being filled with the Holy Spirit, which is the known. "Lord, we repent of our sins; fill us with Your Spirit, and we will speak in that heavenly language, as Your Spirit gives us the holy utterance. We will be baptized in Your name, so that our sins will be washed away and remembered no more." When the known Spirit of Jesus Christ lives within us, we begin to see more and more of the unknown. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Jesus Christ living within us; it leads us into all truth, gives us illumination of His Word and strength to face tomorrow. It's like FIRE shut up in our bones; it's the glory of omnipotence dwelling in "dust."
"But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed,
but of those who
believe and are saved."
(Hebrews 10:39)
"Born Again" means we have repented; we've received the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord; and we've been filled with His Spirit and baptized in His name. We KNOW the unknown. Jesus Christ whispers His love in darkness; underneath are His everlasting arms in the storms; He's the fairest of ten thousand; He's our Lily of the valley and our bright and morning star; we discover "weeping may endure for a night, but JOY comes in the morning! KNOW Jesus Christ and KNOW love; KNOW the Creator of the universe and KNOW about eternity; KNOW the Savior of the world and KNOW forgiveness; KNOW the King of Kings and KNOW hope; KNOW Almighty God and become a new creation; and KNOW the Son and you KNOW the Father!
Everyone wants to know ... What is heaven like? Will we know our families and friends there? Is it real? Is this hope a real hope? Knowing Jesus Christ is knowing answers through His Word, His Spirit, and His gifts; it is the ultimate gate into that elusive: "Knowing The Unknown."
