"The God That Answers By Fire!"

 

"And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty,

If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven,

 and consume thee and thy fifty.  And there came down fire 

from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty."

(2 Kings 1:10)

He's got FIRE shut up in His bones!  Who?  Almighty God!  And, every now and then, He exhales  ...  Hey, you best be not in the line of His nostril flare  ...  unless, it is to be filled with His spirit!  He IS "The God That Answers By Fire!"

The Prophet Elijah did this not in a spirit of revenge, "but for the vindication of the honour and the glory of God, and under the impulse of his spirit, who was abused through the insult on him as his prophet," per Gill's exposition of the Bible.  The wrath of God fell upon men who were unrighteous and ungodly, thus this was an act of justice on God's part, and a declaration of His Prophet, Elijah.  Even today, there are men and women of God who stand in God's stead by the words of their mouths; God uses them to speak for Him in prophecy, and it is wise to not speak against them, if, in fact, they are true prophets and prophetesses of Almighty God.  How do you know if they are true, or like the false prophets of Baal?  The Bible says we know people by their fruits; a good man or woman does not produce bad fruit.  This deserves our Biblical research, because the Word says that in the last days there would arise false prophets and false christs.  We are here; we've seen it! 

"And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,

and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there

appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire,

and it sat upon each of them."

(Acts 2:2-3)

It has happened to over 580 million people worldwide and it is happening somewhere right now!  What?  The Holy Ghost and fire falling upon hungry humans; it is the Spirit of Almighty God descending like a dove and consuming mortals like a fire.  It's from the God who answers by FIRE.  This "fire" changes, infuses, molds, inspires, calls, sends, anoints, protects, and flames the name of Jesus Christ in the hearts of whosoever will.  Will what?  Whosever will receive Jesus as his/her Savior, repent of all sins, be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and be filled with His Spirit.  It is for every human being, in every Nation, every kindred and tongue  ...  yes, the good, the bad, and the ugly  ...  Jesus Christ waits with open arms to all who repent of their sins, ALL  ...  that means He is no respecter of persons; He receives poor, rich, mean, good, and yes, even evil, IF they repent.  He can turn around the most wicked of people by His Spirit.  He is pouring out His Spirit all over the world, and Joel 2:28 says He will pour out His Spirit upon "all flesh."  In India, there are 27 million Christians  ...  and still counting  ...

"Mothering Lilts"

"Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David

would take his harp and play.  Then relief would

come to Saul; he would feel better, and the

evil spirit would leave him."

(I Samuel 16:23)

Where did King David get his impetus to brilliantly play the harp and make melodies to Almighty God?  Did his mother, Nitzevet, teach him at an early age, or was he just gifted, or both?  Not much is known about David's mother, but if she was like most all mothers, she sang lullabies and sweet songs to her son, and maybe her love for music transferred to the soul of David.  Perhaps he was raised hearing delicate sounds from her graceful fingers dancing the harp strings in the midnight hours, in a symphony of  "Mothering Lilts."

 

Whatever we have become in spiritual prowess of Word and song, we can always trace it back to a mighty mother or a grandmother, or even a great grandmother.  The gentle strong hands that rock the cradle leave their beautiful melodic lilts in the spirits and hearts of their young, and King David was no exception to a mother's song.  David grew to be a very talented young man, keeping the sheep in the lonely grassy pasture, staring at the heavens and thinking about His God, singing his amazing love psalms, and strumming his harp, remembering the warm cover in his bed, as his mother tickled the strings and sang him to sleep as a little tiny tot.

The strong name of David, "dawveed," means beloved in Hebrew, and 'beloved' he was.  He was very handsome, even as a young lad, had red hair, ruddy; he was relatively short in stature; he was a shepherd, and adept with the flute and the harp.  David served King Saul from time to time as his musician and armor bearer.   Saul did not know that one day this young harpist would take his place as king.  If he had known it at that time, he would have killed him, as he tried to do many times later.  Upon Saul's death, David was anointed king of Judah at the age of 30.  Later, David was anointed king over all of Israel.  David sang, played his instruments and danced before the Lord with all his might; it's no wonder the Holy One of Israel loved him so.  Where did David learn to worship?  Did his mother make up love songs to the Lord in the fleeting moments of the morning?  Was this where he learned to phrase his psalms?  Did the mother of David birth the soul of David?

Deborah was a prophetess and a judge; she was called "a mother in Israel."  She lived in the hills north of Jerusalem and was aware of the suffering and hardship of her people who lived in Galilee.  She saw the need of Israel, knew of the promises of God, and she made herself available to God.

"Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappodoth, was judging 

Israel at that time.  She used to sit under the palm of Deborah 

between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the

 people of Israel  came up to her for judgment." 

(Judges 4:4-5)

Don't ever underestimate "mother's" of any kind, shape, or form.  Whether it's a mother of children, or a mother of a Nation; those who give birth have the ability to create, and they are close to God, especially so when they are Godly holy women.  Deborah sought God for help to rescue her countrymen from the harsh oppression of Jabin of Hazor.  So, she sent for Barak and said to him:

'The LORD, the God of Israel, commands you, "Go gather your men at Mount Tabor,

taking ten thousand from the tribe of Naphtali and the tribe of Zebulun. And I

will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, to meet you by the river

Kishon with his chariots and his troops; and I will give him into your hand."

Barak said to her, 'If you will go with me I will go; but if you will not go with

me, I will not go.' And she said, 'I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the road

on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will deliver

 Sisera into the hand of a woman.'

Barak and ten thousand men went up, and Deborah went with them.   And Deborah said to Barak, `Up! For this is the day in which the LORD has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the LORD go out before you?'  The rest of the story is the battle was won, and Deborah sang a song.  Beware, for not all "mother's songs" are lullabies!  Some mother's songs move mountains; they are prophetic, warlike, victorious, and profound.  The lilts of Deborah are found in Judges, Chapter 5.  Sing, O Deborah; sing your song; lead the battle, sing loud and strong as the "mother of Israel."  This is the end of Deborah's song, "So perish all thine enemies, O LORD!  But thy friends be like the sun as he rises in his might."  And the land had rest for forty years," (Judges 4-5).

"What's this all about?" you ask.  Well, it's about the song behind the man, the voice that rests in the soul of a warrior, the spirit of courage nurtured from a crib, the chords of wisdom from the ones who give birth, the fight song planted in the heart of a psalmist, and the strength sung in keys of power in "Mothering Lilts."

"The Fullness of the Bow"

"When there are dark clouds, visualize a rainbow.."

Life is a circle in God; it starts from heaven, descending in glory, 

to the confines and defined limits of earth's shores

And when the rain falls, we're blessed with a covenant, when at 

  last the waters cease and spread across the moors

Like a splash of colored ecstasy, in a brush stroke arch of misty 

 skies, we see the half of the lovely beauty, in a bow

It's always amazing in its splendor; it's a veritable mural of the 

 finest in artistic paintings, a joy to behold

With every pouring shower and every bow, we're reminded of 

 God's promise; flood will not be our end again

We're so thankful, Lord, and we praise You for Your grace, with a 

 humble knowledge of Your power, and our Amen

What a loving God You are, O Lord, to send us a continual sign; 

 it's a comfort and a blessing, to created mortals

We know the mighty force of both storms and glory, that fall from 

 realms beyond our vision, from paradise portals

So, we bow our knees to our Holy God, in obeisance and thankful 

surrender; "Have mercy on us," is our fervent cry

We are reminded that we see only half of Your bow, from this
 side; we're eager for the other half, and the "Why?"

Until then, Mighty Lord, we trust and we'll be content with the
 half as we bear burdens, with dignity in the wait

Our answers abide in the new dimension, beyond the kaleidoscope 

 of colors on high, behind the pearly gates

We take refuge in Your sign of heavenly hues, knowing that we'll 

 understand it all, in the near by and by

It's a matter of having faith in our Savior, and respecting the Holy 

 covenant, with an ethereal mind's eye

We're on the Home stretch now, and the storms and rainbows are 

 more frequent, seeming like the sign will end

You're coming for Your bride, to gather us among the colors, in a 

 twinkling moment, and together we'll ascend

That story is untrue, "that good things don't last forever," because 

 when we look at the skies, all brilliantly aglow

We'll know the circle is eternal, when at last we reach that angelic 

 abode, and we'll see "The Fullness of the Bow."

"A Still Small Voice"

"And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD 
was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."

(I Kings 19:12)

Do you hear Him?  Who?  The Lord God Almighty, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Lover of your soul, that's who!  Most of the time, we just don't get still enough, or quiet enough, or sit at His feet long enough  ...  to hear Him.  He wants to talk to us; He wants to answer our prayers; He wants to have intimate conversations with us, if we just get rid of all the outside noise, distractions, and interruptions.  He's in the whisper; He's in the moonlight sweet nothings wafting through the breezes; He's in the soft sweet brush of angels' wings against your cheek; He's in the gentle mention of your name in the coolness of the dawn  ...  He IS  ...  if we will be there long enough to hear and to listen.  It's not easy; it takes a made up mind to get what you came for; it takes some depth of hunger, some stalwart determination, some holy consecration, some staunch commitment, some desperate waiting, some spiritual groaning, some Holy Ghost tongues in the Spirit, and then some deafening silence  ...

It's in the stillness that we "know;" it's in the light of the night that we hear Him.  He longs for us to sing to Him in the dark hours of the night, and tell Him our secrets, so He can tell us His secrets  ...  It is "alone with God," where we receive visions and dreams, insight and direction, orders and assignments, strength and wisdom, peace and assurance  ...  it happens ALONE.  Have you ever sat in the Church sanctuary all day, alone, waiting on God?  Have you ever taken a vacation to go away and just "be with" the God of your soul?  You say, "I can't do that; I have a job, and a family; I have responsibilities."  I hear ya' and He hears ya'  ...  it's up to you  ... it's up to "us" to make time, because we never have time to do it.  Are troubles surrounding you; does it seem as though your prayers bounce against the wall; do you feel as though your life is falling apart with problems and dilemmas?  Get alone with YOUR God!  Spend time at the feet of Jesus Christ  ... and wait  ...  and listen  ...  and hear  ...  and Receive!

"It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood 

before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice:"

(Job 4:16)

Holy visitations don't occur in the noise of the crowd; angelic presences don't come in the turmoil of television, radio, movies, and the racket of every day life.  They happen in the quiet, in the desert place alone, in the confines of the brook, in the cave of "waiting," in the time of seclusion.  If you're not comfortable with a "visit" from God, don't worry, it won't happen.  He is a gentleman; He does not intrude.  Hunger for Him must come from our part, no matter how much HE wants to be with us and commune with us; it must begin with us.  So it is with salvation; it doesn't just fall on us; we must repent honestly and sincerely, seek Him with all of our hearts, and ask Him to fill us with the Holy Ghost and tongues as His Spirit gives utterance, and He will.  Then, we obey His Word, and we are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for remission of our sins.  It all occurs when "we" bow, when "we" repent, when "we" ask, when "we" obey.  Then, the JOY comes, the peace, the answers, the blessing, the strength, and that hope of "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."

The presence of the Lord is a Holy thing, a sacred thing, a moment in time when "time" actually does seem to stand still; it's a moment like no other; it's so very precious and unmistakable in its beauty; it's the most incredible thing that could happen to a human being  ... that moment when you feel Him, you really feel His aura surrounding you, enfolding you, loving you!  How do people live without the Lord Jesus Christ?  They actually don't "live;" they exist!  LIVING occurs when we have Living Rivers of Water flowing through us, which are His Spirit  ...  Don't wait one minute longer!  Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit NOW!  He loves You with an everlasting love, a Holy love, a love like you have never known  ...  He can make you whole, heal your diseases, fill your spirit, calm your nerves, give you peace, work out your life situations, and hold you in the storm, carry you in the terrors, embrace you in your loneliness  ...  Come to Jesus Christ!

Elijah heard Him; He wasn't in the boisterous ferocious wind; He wasn't in the rock-falling, mountain shaking earthquake; He wasn't in the burning, sweltering fire  ...  the Lord was in the "still small voice."  He's still in that soft voice today  ...  we still hear Him today; we still have encounters today; people see angels today; He still speaks today!  We just have to make room for Him, make time for Him, make a place for Him, make adjustments for Him  ... make a bowed knee at His feet, and wait  ...

It's best to listen to His still small voice now, because God can get our attention, if He wants to; He can bring the whole world to a halt if He desires to; He can cause every Nation to look up if He chooses to  ... and He will  ... one day  ...  Maranatha!

be baptized "in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" for
the remission of sins, and receive the Holy Ghost, with 
the evidence of speaking in tongues as God's Spirit 
gives you utterance.  Obey Acts 2:38; read Acts 19.
Be ready; He's coming!
